About Status Effects

Status effects are buffs or debuffs that can be afflicted on a character or enemy to make them stronger or weaker. There are a variety of status effects ranging positive ones that heal or strengthen the recipient, to negative ones that cause damage over time (DoT) or restrict movement. All status effects have an indicator placed above the health bar of the afflicted and many status effects will result in different visual effects or color changes on the victim until the effect wears off.

Recover.png Negative Status Effect Recover Recovers a negative status effect. Completely removes the debuff.
ArteGaugeMax.png Arte Gauge Fill Fills Arte Gauge. Immediately fills Arte Gauge by a fixed amount. Only used by Noble meals for Full Gauge.
MysticArteGaugeMax.png Mystic Arte Gauge Fill Fills Mystic Arte Gauge. Immediately fills Mystic Arte Gauge by a fixed amount. Only used by Noble meals for Full Gauge.
MARegenerate.png Mystic Arte Gauge Gradual Fill Gradually fills Mystic Arte gauge. Gradually increases Mystic Arte Gauge for 40 seconds. Recovers for 1200% mod before other effects.
AttackUp.png ATK UP Increases attack. Increases attack by a fixed amount. Usually 10% before other effects.
DefenseUp.png DEF UP Increases defense. Increases defense by a fixed amount. Usually 10% before other effects.
AttackSpdUp.png Attack Spd. UP Increases attack speed. Increases attack speed by a fixed amount.

CritRateUp.png Critical Hit Rate UP Increases the chance of a critical hit. Increases movement speed by a fixed amount.
CritDmgUp.png Critical Hit Dmg. UP Increases the damage of critical hits. Increases movement speed by a fixed amount.
WeaponEnchant.png Negative Status Effect on Attack Applies a negative status effect to one's attack. Enchants weapon with a specific status effect for combo attacks.
Resistance.png Negative Status Effect Resistance Increases resistance against a negative status effect. Increases resistance threshold by a fixed amount.
MoveEnchant.png Negative Status Effect on Movement Applies a negative status effect to one's movement. Enchants all movement (walk, dash, evade, etc) with a specific status effect.
SlashEnchant.png Slash Arte Attribution Applies slash arte damage to regular attacks. Enchants every slash attack with an additional slash arte. Each slash arte also raises arte gauge and mystic arte gauge based on the attack used. Lasts for 15 seconds.
SuperArmor.png Flinchproof Protects you from flinching against enemy attacks. Prevents staggering from any attacks. Lasts for 15 seconds.
HolyShield.png Holy Shield Reduces damage to self, and cancels negative status effects. Gives 50% damage reduction, clears negative status effects, and prevents new negative status effects from being afflicted. Lasts for 20 seconds.
ArteGainUp.png Arte Gauge Fill Rate UP Increases the fill rate of Arte Gauge. Increases Arte Gauge for each attack gain by a fixed amount.
MysticArteGainUp.png Mystic Arte Gauge Fill Rate UP Increases the fill rate of Mystic Arte Gauge. Increases Mystic Arte Gauge for each attack gain by a fixed amount.
AnaMadeFood.png Ana-Maria's Home-Made Dish Heals HP for Charles, but deals damage for other characters. Charles is healed for 50%, Ed/Bastien are damaged for 10%, and everyone else is damaged for 50%.
AttackDown.png ATK DOWN Reduces attack. Decreases attack by a fixed amount. Usually 10% before other effects.
DefDown.png DEF DOWN Reduces defense. Decreases defense by a fixed amount. Usually 10% before other effects.
Bind.png Bind [BIN] Prevents the use of Actions and Dishes. Can be cured by tapping consecutively. Prevents afflicted from taking any actions during the duration. Lasts for 10 seconds or until cured with tapping or mystic artes.
Burn.png Burn [BRN] Deals gradual damage. Deals 3% of Max HP as damage every second. Lasts for 6 seconds or until cured with food or mystic artes.
Shock.png Shock [SHK] Sporadic interruptions occur between actions. Guaranteed to stagger every 5 seconds. Lasts for 30 seconds or until cured with food or mystic artes.
Paralysis.png Paralysis [PLS] Prevents the use of Actions and Dishes. Prevents afflicted from finishing their action. Lasts for 2 seconds.
Freeze.png Freeze [FRZ] Prevents the use of Actions and Dishes. Can be cured by tapping consecutively or by taking damage from enemies. Prevents afflicted from taking any actions during the duration. Lasts for 10 seconds or until cured with tapping, getting hit, or mystic artes.
Poison.png Poison [POI] Deals gradual damage. Deals 3% of Max HP as damage every 2 seconds. Lasts for 11 seconds or until cured with food or mystic artes.
Sleep.png Sleep [SLP] Prevents the use of Actions and Dishes. Can be cured by tapping consecutively or by taking damage from enemies. Prevents afflicted from taking any actions during the duration. Lasts for 10 seconds or until cured with tapping, getting hit, or mystic artes.
Shadowbind.png Shadow Bind [SDB] Prevents the use of Actions and Dishes. Prevents afflicted from taking any actions and grounds them to the floor. Lasts for 4 seconds or until Gaspard hits the weakpoint.
Stink.png Foul Smell [FSM] Prevents the use of Dishes. Prevents afflicted from using any food. Lasts for 10 seconds.
Ruin.png Ruin [RUI] Deals gradual damage. Greater damage is inflicted each time it occurs. First application deals 4.6% of Max HP as damage every 2 seconds and lasts for 6 seconds. Each re-application of Corrosion deals an additional 0.7% of Max HP as Damage.
Blister.png Bubble [BUB] Prevents the use of Actions and Dishes, also dealing gradual damage. Can be cured by tapping consecutively or by taking damage from enemies. Prevents afflicted from acting and deals 1% of Max HP as damage every second. Lasts for 10 seconds or until cured with tapping, getting hit, or mystic artes.
Confusion.png Confusion [CON] The direction of movement is reversed. Reverses movement direction for the character. Lasts for 10 seconds.
Cotton.png Cotton [COT] Reduces movement speed, and prevents the use of attack action. Duration can be reduced by evasive action. Decreases movement speed by 90% and prevents the start of a new action. Actions queued before being cottoned will occur at 90% speed. Lasts for 10 seconds or until cured with dodging or mystic artes.
AttackDown.png Weak [WEA] Reduces attack. Decreases attack by a 50%. Lasts for 15 seconds or until cured with mystic artes.
IgnoreCounter.pngDefDown.png Panic [PAN] Prevents the use of counter attacks, and reduces defense. Prevents afflicted from using click-based counter reactions and lowers Defense by 20%. Hugo and Ana-Maria counters still work. Lasts for 10 seconds or until cured with mystic artes.
IgnoreCounter.pngMoveSpdDown.png Adhesion [ADH] Prevents the use of counter attacks, and reduces movement speed. Prevents afflicted from using click-based counter reactions and lowers Movement Speed by 90%. Hugo and Ana-Maria counters still work. Lasts for 10 seconds or until cured with mystic artes.
MoveSpdDown.pngAttackSpdDown.png Slow [SLO] Reduces movement speed and attack speed. Decreases both movement speed and attack speed by 90%. Lasts for 10 seconds or until cured with mystic artes.
MoveSpdDown.pngIgnoreDodge.png Muck [MUC] Reduces movement speed, and prevents the use of evasive action. Prevents afflicted from doing any dodge action and lowers movement speed by 90%. Lasts for however long the afflicted is in the difficult terrain.

Debuffs and Affliction Points

Unlike buffs which are instantaneous, debuffs require a certain amount of affliction points to accumulate before the status effect takes place. Each attack that contains a debuff has it's own affliction value for that debuff. The higher the value, the less times the attack needs to hit the target before the debuff occurs. Likewise, the lower the value, the more times the attack needs to hit.

Once those affliction points passes a specific resistance threshold of the target, the debuff will trigger and the accumulated affliction points reset to zero. No new affliction points can accumulate for that debuff until the existing one expires. In addition, the resistance threshold will increase by a fixed amount depending on the target.

Example 1:

Player characters and episode enemies always start off with 100.0 value (val) resistance threshold for every type of debuff with a step size of 100.0 val for every subsequent affliction afterwards. Raid bosses and secret mission bosses will have varying resistant thresholds and step sizes for each type of debuff.
